About The Practical Philosopher

Yes, I am a professional philosopher, still keeping active and working in higher education. While I've moved on from full-time academia, I still teach regularly on the Island both as an adjunct (currently at Camosun College) and a volunteer (at Mid-Island Elder College), and am available for consultation or speaking events about philosophy, learning & education, and authentic assessment & incentives. I bring my reflective, detail-oriented and holistic perspective into my work as a handyman, finding ways to do more than just fix the current problem. Listening carefully to you helps me create solutions better than a simple repair. (I often engage in some Socratic dialogue with my clients to better understand their needs beyond the basic fix.)
